School Based Support Programmes
The Primary Learning Strategy team is pleased to offer a range of support programmes tailored to meet the identified school priorities.
 
We are also able to design bespoke support programmes for schools – for more details or to see how we can help your school please get in touch!
 

Development of sustainable subject leadership of English and/or mathematics

The programme of support could include some of the following:
  • Data analysis and identification of areas for development
  • Summary of progress and standards in the subject
  • Development of subject action plan
  • Support with monitoring and evaluation of the subject including lesson observations, work scrutiny, learning walks and pupil view.
  • Training to develop subject knowledge
  • Development of policy documents
  • Evaluation of the impact of intervention programmes

Time allocation
2 days to include report writing
 

Subject Reviews for English or mathematics

 
The review would be collaborative with the school and follow the agreed programme. This could include:
 
  • Learning walks
  • Joint lesson observations
  • Scrutiny of core subject documents – policy documents, self-evaluation, progress and standards, action plan
  • Scrutiny of pupil work
  • Pupil and staff interviews
 
Following the review a written report would be provided for the school with recommendations to support the development of the subject.
 
Time allocation
2 days to include report writing

Support for the development of quality teaching and learning

 
The programme will be agreed with SLT and could include some of the following:
 
  •  Training on what makes good
  • Agreement with SLT on minimum expectations
  • Moving to outstanding teaching and learning
  • Support package for individual teachers to improve quality of teaching across the school
  • All aspects of assessment for learning
  • Challenge for more able
  • Strategies to address underperformance
  • Subject specific areas for development
  • Key actions to address recommendations from Ofsted
Time allocation
2 days to include report writing

Professional Development

Training for all staff, phases or cohorts related to national and local developments and priorities and tailored to the school’s specific requirements.
This could include:
 
  • Initial meeting to agree the programme of support
  • Subject specific focus
  • Phase specific focus
  • Whole school focus
  • Key themes of school improvement
 
Time allocation
2 days to include report writing

Developing effective provision to support pupils at risk of underachieving

 
The programme will be agreed with SLT and could include some of the following:
 
  • data analysis
  • audit of need
  • review of time allocations
  • audit of resources
  • mapping of provision
  • monitoring and evaluation of the impact of additional support
Time allocation
2 days to include report writing

Core subject development

 
Bespoke packages in line with identified priorities for school networks/clusters and delivered by School Improvement Officers.

This could include:
  • Initial meeting to agree the programme of support
  • Professional development sessions, subject, phase or cohort specific
  • Collaborative planning
  • Development of teaching and learning strategies to address identified priorities
  • Opportunities to share good practice between schools.
