National Award in SEN Coordination

SIL In Partnership with Liverpool John Moores University
We are pleased to confirm the collaboration between School Improvement Liverpool and Liverpool John Moores University in offering the opportunity to develop your practice and lead to the National Award for Special Educational Needs Co-ordination.

The course will be delivered over 6 full days with additional twilight opportunities, of which the majority will be face to face sessions.

Since 2009 it has been a statutory requirement that any newly appointed SENCO must achieve a National Award in Special Educational Needs Co-ordination within three years of appointment.

The exception to this would be if they have previously been a SENCO at any other relevant school for longer than 12 months prior to 2009.

The named SENCO must also have Qualified Teacher Status.

The taught sessions will take place during the working week and in order to complete the award attendance at all sessions will be essential.

Twilight sessions will offer the opportunities to engage with LJMU tutors who will provide you with the appropriate academic support to enable you to plan and complete your assessment activities.

They will also be available at additional times to give on-going support. Being enrolled as a LJMU student will also provide the benefits of support such as access to the online library and Blackboard (a Virtual Learning Environment that can be accessed on and off campus).

The days will be taught at both Toxteth Annexe and I M Marsh Campus.

The course has been designed to ensure that, in achieving the learning outcomes, SENCOs will have engaged in a practical and relevant programme where the assessment activities are in keeping with their role.

We are confident that SENCOs will enjoy the wide range of topics planned and the opportunity to develop their ability to fulfil their leadership role more effectively.

The DfE require that the course should be undertaken at Masters Level and as such upon the successful completion of the award the SENCO will achieve 60 credits (Level 7) at postgraduate level.
The cost of the course will be £1680 +VAT per student.
