The Governors of St Anne's are looking to appoint four committed, caring and enthusiastic Midday Supervisory Assistants to join our team supporting our children during the lunchtime period. At St Anne's we are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expect all staff to share this commitment.

About the Role
Core responsibilities and tasks:
  • Supervise and assist pupils taking lunch
  • Assist in the setting up of the hall and clear tables when meals are finished
  • Supervise and control the behaviour of pupils whilst they eat meals and in the playground
  • Enforce sanctions for maintaining behaviour
  • Administer basic immediate first aid
  • Record incidents/actions
  • Provide general pastoral support, guidance and routine advice to pupils
  • Lead and actively encourage participation in games and activities appropriate to the age of the children
  • Promote active, purposeful and co-operative behaviour/activity
  • Alert senior staff of any concerns regarding individuals/ groups
  • Be able to apply emergency procedures e.g. fire.
  • Supervise children in designated areas inside the school during bad weather
  • Challenge and report strangers on site
  • Take reasonable overview/precautions/actions to preserve pupils health and safety
  • To participate in training and performance development as required
  • Reporting to Deputy Headteacher

  • To be a fun loving person is essential
  • To enjoy playing with children is essential
  • Experience of working as a midday supervisor in a Primary School setting is desirable
  • Up to date ‘first aid in school’ training (or willingness to undertake the same or equivalent) is essential
  • Experience of working in Primary School setting i.e. with children from 4-11 years is desirable
  • Evidence of making a positive contribution to school ethos is desirable
  • Working as part of a team is essential
  • Knowledge of safe practice and child protection issues and procedures is essential
  • Good understanding of equality and inclusion in a primary school is essential
  • Knowledge of a range of strategies to engage children in learning and promote positive behaviour is desirable
  • Having high expectations of themselves and of others is essential
  • Having excellent verbal communication skills is essential
  • Be able to settle disputes between children in a fair but firm manner is essential
  • Promote the appropriate use of playground equipment through play example and guidance is essential
  • Liaise with staff as appropriate so that incidents are known by relevant staff is essential
  • Be able to demonstrate empathy, communication, listening and interpersonal skills when dealing with children is essential
  • Be a good team player and be able to work with others is essential
  • Be able to use own initiative and act in line with school policies and procedures is essential Demonstrate commitment to inclusive practise and equal opportunities is essential
  • Demonstrate enthusiasm, flexibility, adaptability, determination, resilience and confidentiality is essential
